How to make a QR code that actually scans

Use the QR code generator. The tool creates a QR code for a link, text, Wi-Fi network or contact, and you download it as a PNG image.

Steps

  1. Enter exactly what the code should contain — check the link character by character.
  2. Generate the code and download the PNG.
  3. Scan it with your own phone before printing or publishing it.
  4. Print it large enough, with strong contrast, and test the printed copy too.

Mistakes that break codes

The common failures are a wrong link (the code faithfully encodes your typo), a code printed too small, low contrast (for example light grey on white), or a code placed on a curved or glossy surface that a camera cannot read flat. A code that scans on screen but not in print has usually been printed too small or too faint.

Limits

The code only encodes what you typed — if the link is wrong, the code is wrong too. Tools99 does not host the destination and cannot fix a broken link after you have printed the code; if the destination moves, you need a new code.
